Chinese Takeaway Packaging for Tauranga Operators

Fried rice, dumplings, noodles — they all need a container that doesn't collapse before the customer gets home.

Tauranga's hospo scene moves fast, especially over summer when the tourists roll in. Whether you're running a noodle bar on the strip or a dim sum kitchen doing big weekend numbers, you need containers that hold heat, stack properly, and don't leak sauce all over someone's car seat.

We're already supplying one Chinese operator in Tauranga. Stock is held in NZ, orders dispatched same business day if you're in before 4pm on stocked lines.

Containers That Handle the Job

Chinese food is heavy, saucy, and hot. A flimsy container fails on all three counts. Here's what we stock that actually works:

  • RF4680 Black Oval Container 500ml — 250 per carton. Looks sharp, handles saucy mains and fried rice without warping.
  • RF4683 Black Oval Container 750ml — same container, bigger portion. Good for noodle dishes or family-size sides. 250 per carton.
  • RF0610.1 Bonson Wide Base Container Black 700ml — wide base means it doesn't tip. 500 per carton. Solid for soups or saucy dishes where spills cost you reviews.
  • H4208 5ltr DG Plastic Container with Cap — for bulk prep, sauces, or catering runs. Sealed, stackable, handles the fridge and the bench.

Bio Options If That's Your Direction

Some Tauranga operators are moving toward compostable packaging. We stock a few options worth knowing about:

  • RF4204 Bio Square Container White 280ml — 130 x 130 x 45mm, 600 per carton. Good for small sides, sauces, or dim sum portions.
  • RF4218 Bio Lid to suit 280ml and 480ml Bio Square Containers — 600 per carton. Gets the lid matched properly so you're not improvising at the counter.
  • F4229 BioCane Takeaway Tray 500ml — 180 x 124 x 42mm, 500 per carton. Sugarcane-based tray. Handles heat reasonably well for a bio option.
  • F1855 Biopak Rectangular Container 500ml — 300 per carton. Rectangular shape stacks efficiently on the shelf and in the bag.

Bio doesn't mean it'll fall apart in transit — these are built for actual takeaway use, not just a good-looking product photo.

Tauranga — What to Know About the Demand

Tauranga sits at around 160,000 people and swells significantly in summer. Tourism-weighted hospitality demand means your quiet Tuesday can turn into a very loud Friday almost overnight. Running out of containers on a busy weekend isn't an option.

Order in bulk when you can, keep a backup carton on the shelf, and get your order in before 4pm NZ business days to hit same-day dispatch on stocked lines. We're not going to promise miracles on custom or non-stocked items — those take longer and we'll tell you upfront.

Mix and Match Across the Range

Most Chinese menus need more than one container size. A 280ml bio square for a side of fried dumplings is a different job to a 750ml black oval for beef and black bean. You don't have to commit to one product across your whole menu.

Order by the carton, keep a couple of options on hand, and you'll cover most of what comes through on a busy service. If you're not sure what suits a specific dish, get in touch — we can talk through it without the sales pitch.

Frequently asked

What sizes do the black oval containers come in?+

We stock two: 500ml (RF4680) and 750ml (RF4683). Both come in cartons of 250. The 500ml suits most single-serve mains, the 750ml handles bigger portions or noodle dishes.

Do the bio containers hold up with hot, saucy food?+

The BioCane tray and Biopak rectangular container handle heat reasonably well for most Chinese takeaway applications. They're not indestructible but they're built for actual takeaway use. For very soupy dishes, the Bonson wide base container is a safer bet.

What's the minimum order?+

We sell by the carton. Quantities vary by product — the bio square containers are 600 per carton, the black ovals are 250, the Bonson wide base is 500. Check the individual product listings or get in touch if you want to talk through what makes sense for your volume.

Can I get custom printed containers for my restaurant?+

Custom print is available but it's not a stocked line — lead times are longer and there are minimum quantities involved. Contact us directly to discuss what's possible and what the real timeline looks like.

Do you deliver to Tauranga?+

Yes. Order before 4pm on a NZ business day and stocked lines go out same day. Tauranga delivery times from dispatch depend on courier — we'll give you an honest estimate, not a marketing promise.

Is there a lid for the bio square containers?+

Yes — RF4218 is the bio lid suited to the 280ml and 480ml bio square containers. It's sold separately, 600 per carton. Get both at the same time so you're not hunting for a compatible lid later.
