Indian Takeaway Packaging for Wellington
Curry leaks. Bad lids cost you customers. Here's what actually holds.
Wellington's a compact city with a lot of hungry people and not much forgiveness for soggy bags. If you're running a curry house, a dosa spot, or a dabba-style lunch operation in town, your containers need to handle heat, sauce weight, and a bike ride across the waterfront.
We already supply two Indian operators in Wellington. The range below is what's stocked and ready to dispatch. No guessing, no waiting weeks for a container that turns up the wrong size.
Containers built for wet, heavy food
Indian food is not kind to flimsy packaging. Butter chicken at 80°C, a dal that's been simmering for six hours, a wet curry that needs a container with real wall strength and a lid that clips shut properly.
The RF0610.1 Bonson Wide Base Container 700ml (Black, 500/ctn) is a reliable workhorse for mains. Wide base means it sits stable in a bag. The black finish hides sauce splatter on the inside walls. Sold in cartons of 500.
For sides and chutneys, the RF4204 Bio Square Container 280ml (130x130x45mm, 600/ctn) pairs with the RF4218 Bio Lid — 600 lids per carton. Square geometry stacks neatly in a paper bag without rotating and leaking at the seam.
Oval containers for plated presentation
Some Wellington operators plate their mains to look like restaurant food, not a canteen scoop. The oval containers give you that.
- RF4680 Black Oval Container 500ml — 250 per carton. Good for a single main or a generous serve of rice.
- RF4683 Black Oval Container 750ml — 250 per carton. Handles a full curry and rice together, or a large dosa roll.
Both are black, both stack, both look sharp in a delivery bag.
Eco options if your customers ask
More Wellington cafes and restaurants are getting asked about compostable packaging. If that matters to your crowd, we stock two options in this range.
- F4229 BioCane Takeaway Tray 500ml (180x124x42mm, 500/ctn) — sugarcane fibre, handles heat, good for snacks and smaller mains.
- F1855 Biopak Rectangular Container 500ml — 300 per carton. Certified compostable, rectangular shape, suits rice-and-curry combos.
These aren't greenwashing — they're functional containers that happen to be compostable. But they cost more per unit, so factor that into your pricing.
Bulk storage for the kitchen
If you're prepping sauces, marinating proteins, or storing bulk curry base in the cool room, the H4208 5 Litre DG Plastic Container with Cap is in the range. It's a straight-sided, lidded container — useful for prep kitchens that go through volume fast.
Not a takeaway container. Don't send it out with a customer order. But for the back of house, it does the job.
Ordering and dispatch
We dispatch stocked lines on orders placed before 4pm on NZ business days. Wellington's close to our network, so lead times are reasonable — but check stock levels on the product pages before you cut it fine on a Friday afternoon.
Buying wholesale means buying by the carton. Check the carton quantities above and order to match your weekly volume, not your daily burn. Storing an extra carton costs less than running out on a Saturday night.
Frequently asked
Which container works best for a wet curry like butter chicken or korma?+
The RF0610.1 Bonson Wide Base 700ml is your best bet. Wide base for stability, solid lid, and it handles liquid-heavy food without flexing at the seams. Black colour also means sauce staining on the inside walls isn't visible.
Do you stock lids that fit the Bio Square containers?+
Yes. The RF4218 Bio Lid is designed to fit both the 280ml and 480ml Bio Square containers. Sold in cartons of 600, same as the containers.
Are any of your containers compostable?+
Two options in this range are. The F4229 BioCane Tray 500ml is made from sugarcane fibre. The F1855 Biopak Rectangular Container 500ml is certified compostable. Both cost more per unit than standard plastic, so price your meals accordingly.
Can I get custom printing on these containers for my Wellington restaurant?+
Custom print isn't covered on this page — contact us directly and we can talk through what's possible and the minimum quantities involved.
What's the minimum order?+
We sell by the carton. Quantities vary by product — for example, the Bonson containers come 500 per carton, the oval containers 250 per carton, and the Bio Square containers 600 per carton. Check the individual product pages for the full details.
How quickly can I get stock delivered to Wellington?+
